Q.

H: Jeff you want to touch on some key Google Ad targeting options?

J: Hi Heather, yes the last 6 months has seen an ever increasing number of companies jumping into online advertising. This of course lifts the auction rates for your campaigns and with increased competition for business, comes increased costs.

What we know, is that refining key details in the ad account can lower costs considerably, and ultimately increase leads. The kind of thing I am talking about, is geo targeting the right suburbs and cities for where you operate. Looking at what age, gender, and income bracket you are targeting. Ask yourself, do you get, most of your leads, from people browsing on a desktop – if so, should you exclude a particular device to stretch your budget further.

You should be looking at the type of conversions you are feeding the ad platform and so a review of the attribution model you use may well save big money over the next 12 months.

Finally keyword hygiene is the big part of your account health. If you are not adding negative keywords into your campaigns each month, you are only helping to grow Googles bottom line – not yours.

H: So what can companies be doing to lower costs?

J: A full review your ad account and your analytics should be front on mind in the coming months. If you are running ads and have not been addressing these issues, 2023 is going to see a drop in leads and an increase in costs.
